About This Pilgrimage

Join St. Joseph’s Parish and Fr. Kevin Leaver on pilgrimage to the shrines of Saint Joseph, home for his feast

Join St. Joseph’s Parish and Fr. Kevin Leaver on pilgrimage to the great shrines of Saint Joseph in New England and Canada. Marking the parish’s 125th year, the nine nights on the road bring daily Mass at the shrines along the way and a return to Malden for the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker on May 1.

The pilgrimage begins and ends at St. Joseph Parish and travels by private coach the whole way. The route runs north through the Shrine of St. Joseph the Worker in Lowell and the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Burlington into Canada, with three nights in Montréal for Saint Joseph’s Oratory and the tomb of Saint André Bessette, and two nights in Québec City for the old walled city and Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.

On the way home the group prays at the mission where Saint Kateri Tekakwitha is buried, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville, where Saint Isaac Jogues and his companions gave their lives, and at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge. A ProRome Tour Manager is with the group from the first Mass in Malden to the last.

Additional Trip Information

Join St. Joseph’s Parish and Fr. Kevin Leaver on pilgrimage to New England and Québec. Here are the practical details to help you prepare.

Travel by Coach

There are no flights to book. The pilgrimage travels the whole way by private motorcoach, leaving from St. Joseph Parish in Malden after morning Mass on April 22 and returning there on May 1. The ProRome Tour Manager travels with the group from the first day. Exact departure and return times will be sent to the group once everyone is registered. Questions: office@prorome.com.

Lodging Information

Three-star hotels throughout. Burlington, Vermont (1 night), Montréal (3 nights), Québec City (2 nights), Albany area, New York (1 night), and Stockbridge area, Massachusetts (2 nights). Specific properties will be confirmed in the final trip information packet.

Group Meals

Daily breakfast and dinner are included, with breakfast on the final morning. Lunches are on your own, usually at or near the shrines, allowing pilgrims to eat at their own pace. Beverages other than water are not included in group meals.

Dietary & Health

No dietary restrictions. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or celiac: we work only with restaurants that have ample options. If you have allergies, simply inform the tour manager at the start of the trip. All participants are expected to be in active good health and able to travel as part of a group; walking, stairs, and several long days on the coach are part of the trip. Any condition needing special attention should be reported in writing at registration.

What to Pack

This is an early spring pilgrimage. Late April runs about 40 to 60°F in New England and Montréal, and Québec City can be near freezing in the mornings, with rain likely. Bring broken-in waterproof walking shoes, a warm jacket, layers, a hat and gloves, a compact umbrella or rain shell, and modest attire for Mass. A small daypack for the coach, a refillable water bottle, your passport, and prescription medications in original containers round it out. Pack light: the group changes hotels five times.

Placing Calls in Canada

Calls between Canada and the United States dial the same way as at home: 1, then the area code and number. Most U.S. plans include or offer Canada coverage, but check with your provider before departure so you are not charged roaming fees while in Québec.

Crisis Management

If lost: stay put, call your tour manager, or take a taxi to the hotel. If you lose your passport, phone, or wallet: notify your tour manager immediately; the U.S. Consulates General in Montréal and Québec City can issue emergency passports. If injured: notify your tour manager and we arrange emergency transport. Read the full plan →

Country Information

Canada: Capital Ottawa · Currency Canadian dollar · French is the language of Québec, with English widely spoken in Montréal · Same time zone as Boston. Cards are widely accepted. Outlets are the same as in the U.S., so no adapter is needed. No visa for U.S. citizens; a valid passport is required to enter Canada and to return to the United States.
