A Catholic Pilgrimage to Sicily & Malta

November 7-18, 2026

$4982 per person, air-inclusive from IAD

Sicily and Malta together form one of the most extraordinary pilgrimage destinations in the entire Catholic world — two sun-drenched islands where the footsteps of the Apostles, the legacy of the Norman kings, and centuries of unbroken Catholic devotion have left a lasting impression. On this eleven-night journey, pilgrims will walk the streets of ancient Siracusa where St. Paul once preached, ascend the slopes of Mount Etna, marvel at the golden mosaics of Monreale, stand before the cave where the Apostle sheltered after his shipwreck on Malta, and pray in some of the most magnificent churches in Christendom. With daily Mass celebrated at sacred sites throughout the journey, four-star accommodations at every stop, and the expert guidance of ProRome Tours, this pilgrimage offers a rare and deeply enriching encounter with the ancient roots of the Faith in two of the Mediterranean’s most breathtaking destinations.

Registration Code = MAL110726

Trip Highlights

Palermo,Sicily, Italy
Palermo

We begin our pilgrimage in Sicily’s magnificent capital. Visits include the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia on Monte Pellegrino, the Abbey of Monreale with its breathtaking Byzantine mosaics, and the Palatine Chapel — the dazzling private royal chapel of Sicily’s Norman kings.

Agrigento & Siracusa

We travel south to Agrigento’s legendary Valley of the Temples before continuing to ancient Siracusa. Here we visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Tears, the ancient Crypt of St. Marcian, and explore the enchanting island of Ortigia with its cathedral built over a Greek temple to Athena.

Mt. Etna & Taormina

Pilgrims ascend Europe’s highest active volcano — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — for sweeping views across Sicily and the Mediterranean. We then descend to Taormina, jewel of the Sicilian coastline, where the ancient Greek Theater offers one of the most spectacular backdrops in the ancient world.

Malta

Crossing by ferry to the ancient island nation of Malta, we visit St. Paul’s Grotto in Rabat, the Mosta Rotunda, St. Paul’s Bay, and the beloved Mellieħa Sanctuary of Our Lady. We also explore Valletta’s magnificent St. John’s Co-Cathedral — home to Caravaggio’s masterwork — and the sacred Three Cities of the Knights of St. John.

Crisis Management

The following scenarios are typical “crisis” situations that may occur while on tour and how to best prevent and manage them. If you would like to read our full plan please download it here: https://prorome.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ProRome-Crisis-Management-Plan-.pdf

You Get Lost

This is a common occurrence. First of all, stay put. Most folks who get really lost do so by running in the wrong direction! Your tour manager will find you if you stay put. If you have a cell phone, please call your tour manager, or any other group member you may be in contact with. If after 30 minutes you are unable to reach your tour manager and cannot find the group, proceed to the nearest taxi stand and have a cab take you back to the hotel. The hotel address can be found in your trip materials. Upon arrival at the hotel please call your tour manager and let him know that you have returned to the hotel.

You Lose Your Phone, Wallet or Passport

Nine times out of ten, this can be prevented. Theft is not uncommon in tourist areas, so remember to keep your valuables as protected as possible. Fanny packs under the shirt are ideal. If you use a purse or backpack, hold it in front especially in crowds. Be aware of your surroundings. If you do lose your phone, wallet or passport, inform your tour manager immediately. We will then inform the local authorities. The US embassy can turn around new passports, but expect a hefty fee.

You Get Injured

Nine times out of ten we can prevent personal injuries by following rules and guidelines that are put in place. That includes never standing while the bus is moving, only crossing the street at crosswalks, and wearing sturdy walking shoes. If you do experience an injury, inform your tour manager immediately. If necessary, we will arrange emergency transportation to the nearest hospital for care.

Dehydration and Fatigue

It is crucially important to begin hydration at least three days prior to departure, and to increase your electrolyte intake as well. Touring in autumn can be deceiving, because while you may not feel thirsty in cooler weather, your body will nonetheless require lots of water. Always carry a water bottle with you. If you do experience dizziness, a fever or sudden fatigue, notify your tour manager immediately and sit still. If necessary, we will arrange emergency transportation to the nearest hospital for care.

Again, nine times out of ten we can prevent personal injuries by following rules and guidelines that are put in place. If necessary, we will arrange emergency transportation to the nearest hospital for care.

Trip Patron

As our trip patron, we will pray to St. Paul before and during the trip, asking the Apostle to the Gentiles for his protection and intercession for our pilgrimage. St. Paul, pray for us!

About This Pilgrimage

Holy Week and Easter in Rome: the John Paul the Great pilgrimage to Italy

The John Paul the Great pilgrimage brings the students, families, and faculty of Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School to Rome, Orvieto, and Assisi for the most sacred days of the Church’s year: Holy Week and Easter 2027.

Five nights near the Vatican carry the group through the Sacred Triduum in Rome: the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, the Celebration of the Passion on Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. Between the liturgies the group descends into the ancient catacombs, climbs the Scala Santa on their knees, venerates relics of the True Cross, and prays at the tomb of St. John Paul II, the school’s patron. On Easter morning pilgrims may stand in St. Peter’s Square for Mass and the Urbi et Orbi blessing with Pope Leo XIV, before a celebratory Easter lunch together.

On Easter Monday the private motorcoach travels to two nights in a religious guesthouse in the centro storico of Assisi, with an optional stop in Orvieto at the Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena. In Assisi the group prays at the tomb of St. Francis, gazes upon the San Damiano Crucifix that spoke to him, and walks the streets where St. Clare renounced everything to follow Christ. St. Joseph, protector of the Child Jesus, is the patron of the trip, and the group prays to him before and during the pilgrimage. A ProRome Tour Manager travels with the group throughout.

Visas and Passports

Visas to Italy are not required for U.S. citizens. If you hold a passport from another country, please check with your local consulate about requirements for travel to Italy. All passengers traveling internationally are required to have a passport. Please carry proper identification (your passport) on you and do not leave it in your suitcase or hotel room. European law requires you to carry your passport with you at all times.

Currency – The Euro

The official currency of Italy is the Euro.  1 euro is roughly $1.17 (as of September 28, 2021). Credit cards are accepted in shops and restaurants. However, smaller shops will ask you to pay in cash or have a minimum amount required to use a credit card. You should always carry some cash on you for small purchases such as postcards, gelato or a refreshing drink.

Budgeting and Shopping

The following budget guidelines are just approximate values or starting values for meals and are per person. Actual prices will vary widely by restaurant and city within a country but below are some averages as provided by our experienced personnel.

  • The approximate cost of a soft drink/mineral water/coffee is €3-5.
  • An average lunch consisting of a salad or sandwich and a soda or water starts at approximately €15.
  • Dinner at a mid-range restaurant starts at approximately €30.

Please note that soft drinks and mineral water are often as expensive, if not more expensive than wine or beer. Sales tax or VAT (value added tax) is included on price tags. To obtain VAT refunds (which may take up to three months to process), special forms usually have to be stamped by Customs; please ask for a tax-free shopping form with each purchase and follow the instructions for completion. Customs import charges on items shipped home are not included in purchase prices.

Electrical Outlets

Italy runs on 220V. Like the rest of Europe, the plugs are two round prongs. If you have a cell phone, you will need to bring an adapter for the plugs. Here is a link to one on Amazon for less than $10.00

Crisis Management

The following scenarios are typical “crisis” situations that may occur while on tour Italy and how to best prevent and manage them. Please read. If you would like to read our full plan please download it here: https://prorome.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ProRome-Crisis-Management-Plan-.pdf.

You Get Lost

This is a common occurrence. First of all, stay put. Most folks who get really lost do so by running in the wrong direction! Your tour manager will find you if you stay put. If you have a cell phone, please call your tour manager, or any other group member you may be in contact with. If you cannot dial “+” on your phone, dial “00” followed by “1”, followed by the number. If after 30 minutes you are unable to reach your tour manager and cannot find the group, proceed to the nearest Taxi stand and have a cab take you back to the hotel. The hotel address can be found below. If you do not see a cab stand nearby, enter the nearest hotel and ask the concierge to call you a cab. Upon arrival at the hotel please call your tour manager and let him know that you have returned to the hotel.

You Lose Your Phone, Wallet or Passport

Nine times out of ten, this can be prevented. Theft is not uncommon in Rome, so remember to keep your valuables as protected as possible. Fanny packs under the shirt are ideal. If you use a purse or backpack, hold it in front especially in crowds. Be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on those around you as well. If you do lose your phone, wallet or passport, inform your tour manager immediately. We will then inform the local authorities and say a prayer to St. Anthony! The US embassy in Rome can turn around new passports within a few hours, but expect a hefty fee – 500 euro!

You Get Injured

Again, nine times out of ten we can prevent personal injuries by following rules and guidelines that are put in place. That includes never standing while the bus is moving, only crossing the street at crosswalks, and wearing sturdy walking shoes and keeping your eyes on the road. If you do experience an injury, inform your tour manager immediately. If necessary, we will arrange emergency transportation to the nearest hospital for care.

Dehydration and Fatigue

It is crucially important to begin hydration at least three days prior to departure, and to increase your electrolyte intake as well. Touring in autumn can be deceiving, because while you may not feel thirsty in 60 degree weather, your body will nonetheless require lots of water. Always carry a water bottle with you. If you do experience dizziness, a fever or sudden fatigue, notify your tour manager immediately and sit still. If necessary, we will arrange emergency transportation to the nearest hospital for care.

Trip Patron

As our trip patron, we will pray to Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati before and during the trip, asking this joyful young saint — whose tomb we will visit in Turin — for his protection and intercession for our pilgrimage. Blessed Pier Giorgio, pray for us!

A Catholic Pilgrimage to South Korea for World Youth Day 2027

August 1 – 10, 2027

$4190 per person, plus airfare

Registration is closed at this time. To be added to the waiting list please fill out the registration form below.

This 10-day pilgrimage brings young adults from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to the heart of it all. You will experience the transformative events of World Youth Day — Stations of the Cross, Prayer Vigil, Closing Mass with Pope Leo XIV and more — alongside hundreds of thousands of young Catholics from around the world. Between events, you’ll walk the ground where Korean martyrs shed their blood, stand at the burial place of St. Andrew Kim Dae-geon, and experience the beauty of Korean culture from ancient palaces to traditional hanok villages.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, thousands of Korean Catholics were martyred for their faith during some of the most brutal persecutions in Church history. Today, South Korea is home to nearly six million Catholics, and in August 2027, it will welcome the universal Church for World Youth Day in Seoul. The Providence of God fills us with hope, and that is why we venture to World Youth Day in Seoul in August of 2027.

Every logistical detail is handled so you can focus on the pilgrimage: private motorcoach transportation, bilingual English/Korean guides, a dedicated ProRome tour manager on every bus, daily Mass at historic Korean churches, and a meal plan. Whether this is your first pilgrimage or your tenth, this is a once-in-a-generation journey you won’t want to miss.

*This Pilgrimage is only open to registrants between the ages of 18 and 39
Scholarships are available through the YAMDI Formation Program. Follow this link for more information.

Hotel Information

Hotels

Your pilgrimage includes 9 nights in carefully selected 4-star hotels in Seoul, chosen for their location, comfort, and value. All hotels include air conditioning and heating, private bathroom with shower, free Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping, and convenient location with access to public transportation. Specific hotel names will be confirmed upon booking and will be conveniently located for easy access to World Youth Day events and pilgrimage sites.

Group Meals

The Meals

Daily breakfast and either lunch or dinner are included in the tour package. The specific meal (lunch or dinner) will be determined approximately 3–4 months prior to departure based on the daily itinerary and logistics. Beverages other than water, tea, and coffee are not included; alcoholic beverages are not included.

A Note on WYD Meal Vouchers: We have chosen not to include World Youth Day meal vouchers in this package. Based on our experience at previous World Youth Days, the partner restaurants accepting these vouchers are typically overwhelmed, resulting in wait times of several hours. We believe providing scheduled group meals offers better value and a more enjoyable experience for pilgrims.

Tip: If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, simply inform the tour director at the beginning of the trip.

Dietary and Health Restrictions

We work with restaurants and caterers who can accommodate a variety of dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other restrictions.

Regarding health, please review a clause from our Terms and Conditions:

ProRome Tours expects you to make a realistic assessment of your health. World Youth Day Events Disclaimer

Due to the nature of World Youth Day and the scale of events surrounding the Holy Father’s visit, some items in the itinerary are subject to change. World Youth Day event times and venues will be confirmed by the organizing committee closer to the event. Mass locations are subject to availability at the time of booking.

Trip Patron

St. Andrew Kim Dae-geon was just 25 years old when he was beheaded for the faith in 1846, becoming Korea’s first native Catholic priest and martyr. Ordained in Shanghai after years of secret study and perilous journeys across the sea, he returned to his homeland knowing full well that proclaiming Christ meant death — and he chose it willingly, saying to the faithful gathered at his execution, “This is my last hour of life; listen to me attentively.” His witness ignited a flame that no persecution could extinguish, and today nearly six million Korean Catholics stand as living proof that the blood of the martyrs is truly the seed of the Church.

Trip Patron

As our trip patron, we will pray to St. Paul before and during the trip, asking the Apostle to the Gentiles for his protection and intercession for our pilgrimage. St. Paul, pray for us!

A Catholic Pilgrimage to Italy

November 16-27, 2026

$3690 per person + Airfare

This trip is now FULL. To be placed on our waiting list please contact our office at office@prorome.com.

This journey begins in Orvieto, where pilgrims encounter the Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena—the 13th-century miracle that prompted Pope Urban IV to establish the Feast of Corpus Christi. From there, the group travels to Assisi for three nights exploring the birthplace of Saints Francis and Clare. Highlights include the magnificent Basilica of Saint Francis with Giotto’s renowned frescoes, the Basilica of Saint Clare housing the San Damiano crucifix that spoke to Francis, and the tomb of newly canonized Saint Carlo Acutis.

A day excursion to Loreto brings pilgrims to the Holy House of the Annunciation, where Mary spoke her world-changing “fiat” to the Angel Gabriel. Before departing for Rome, the group visits the Porziuncola—the tiny chapel where Francis died and the spiritual heart of the Franciscan Order. In Rome, pilgrims spend six nights at the Hotel Michelangelo from where they set out and explore the apostolic foundation of the Church. They will pray and tour St. Peter’s Basilica and St. Paul Outside the Walls, both built over apostolic tombs. The itinerary includes ancient Christian Rome (Colosseum, Forum, Catacombs), the Lateran Basilica, the Holy Stairs that Christ ascended, and precious Passion relics including fragments of the True Cross.

The pilgrimage also includes a Papal Audience with Pope Leo XIV, a guided tour of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, and concludes with a special Thanksgiving Mass and Turkey Run at the Pontifical North American College. Throughout the journey, daily Mass at sacred sites and expert guides ensure a profound spiritual experience that transforms pilgrims’ faith and connection to the universal Church. Roundtrip airfare and beautiful four-star hotels will be arranged. A ProRome tour manager will accompany the group throughout the course of the trip, and private bus transportation, Catholic tour guides, all tours and tickets, daily breakfast and either daily lunch or dinner are included in the price.

Trip Highlights

Assisi

We begin our pilgrimage with a visit to the Seraphic City, Assisi! Here we will walk in the footsteps of the great Sts. Francis and Clare, venerating their relics and asking for their intercession. On the way to Assisi, pilgrims will also have the opportunity to visit the town of Orvieto and encounter the Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena.

Loreto

We depart Assisi for a day trip to the Adriatic coast and the town of Loreto, home to one of Christianity’s most venerate shrines: the Holy House of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Tradition holds this to be the actual house from Nazareth where Mary lived and where the Angel Gabriel appeared to her at the Annunciation.

Rome

Our pilgrimage will culminate with seven nights in the Eternal City complete with visits to the Papal Basilicas, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Catacombs, the Vatican Museums and more! We will also enjoy an excursion to Monte Cassino, the monastery founded by St. Benedict and home to his and his sister St. Scholastica’s tombs.

Papal Audience

Our pilgrimage concludes with our participation in the General Audience with the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, in St. Peter’s Square. We’ll have the opportunity to see, hear, and receive the blessing of the successor to Saint Peter, the visible head of the universal Church. We’ll then celebrate Thanksgiving Day on our last day in the Eternal City!

Trip Patron

As our trip patron, we will pray to St. Paul before and during the trip, asking the Apostle to the Gentiles for his protection and intercession for our pilgrimage. St. Paul, pray for us!

About This Pilgrimage

Easter in Italy on the Saint Agnes School pilgrimage

This carefully crafted 10-day Saint Agnes School pilgrimage, March 29–April 7, 2027, puts our Catholic faith at the center of the experience: the Angelus with Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter's Square, daily Mass in Italy's most sacred sites, and prayer at the tombs of Saints Peter, Paul, Francis, Clare, and Padre Pio.

Overnights are spent in Assisi, San Giovanni Rotondo, and Rome, with featured day-visits to Orvieto (the Eucharistic Miracle of Bolsena), Loreto (the Holy House of the Blessed Virgin Mary), Monte Sant'Angelo (the ancient grotto of St. Michael the Archangel), and Monte Cassino (the tombs of Sts. Benedict and Scholastica). The itinerary is thoughtfully paced, with ample time for prayer, reflection, and rest between sites.

Roundtrip airfare from Minneapolis–St. Paul and beautiful religious guesthouses are arranged for you. A ProRome Tour Manager accompanies the group throughout, and private motorcoach transportation, professional Catholic guides, all tours and entry tickets, daily breakfast, a daily three-course dinner, and all gratuities are included in the air-inclusive price of $4,919 per person.

Trip Patron

St. Joseph – the foster father of Jesus Christ – is the greatest of saints. As our trip patron, we will pray to St. Joseph before and during the trip, asking this incredible man, the protector of the child Jesus, to protect us on our pilgrimage!

“The Church is like a great ship being pounded by the waves of life’s different stresses. Our duty is not to abandon ship, but to keep her on her course.“
